UXBRIGE LANDMARKS: PAST & PRESENT

UXBRIGE LANDMARKS: PAST & PRESENT Paperback – Nov. 30 2024

During the past 70 plus years, Uxbridge has seen a number of its most historic structures lost to perceived progress. The charming Market Hall; the unique Bell Tower; and stately Post Office are just a few of the impressive building which have fallen to the wrecking crew.

Thankfully a number of Uxbridge’s historic buildings have survived the “tear down” mind-set of many community leaders during the mid-twentieth century, at a time when demolishing historical landmarks and replacing them with dull, unimaginative buildings was popular.

Uxbridge Public Library is a shining example of a building that has been preserved for more than a century, and it was enhanced in 1986 when a modern functional addition was completed.

Uxbridge Landmarks - Past & Present takes a look back at the history of both the town’s lost treasures, and the preserved buildings.
